Opening a Monitoring Session

Tracealyzer requires a monitoring session file output by RTX64 Monitor, or by using RtMonitorControl to enable monitoring programmatically.

If the RTX64 Runtime is not installed on the same system as the RTX64 SDK, you must copy the monitoring session folders from a system with the Runtime installed and then place these folders anywhere on the SDK system.

Opening a Session

Once you have generated a monitoring session file on—or copied one to—the machine running Tracealyzer, you can open the monitoring session by following the steps below.

To open a monitoring session:

  1. Click File > Open File.
  2. Browse for and select the monitor session file (.MONX) you want to open.

NOTE: Every monitoring session folder created by RTX64 3.6 or a later version includes a monitor session file (.MONX). To open a monitoring session created by a pre-3.6 version of RTX64, browse to the .MEV files in the session folder.

NOTE: You cannot open a session that is actively being updated. Attempts to do this will result in an error. To open an active session, stop monitoring and then open the session.

NOTE: RTX64 monitoring creates hidden directories and files. These files are visible in File Explorer when it is set to show hidden items. Hidden monitoring session files cannot be opened in Tracealyzer.

  1. Click OK. The session data appears in the Trace View.

Working with the Initial View

When a monitoring session folder is opened, Tracealyzer displays the full, high-level view of the session, which is typically too broad to provide a useful view of the data you are interested in. You can use the zooming and navigating options to target a specific area of the session data to analyze.
