Viewing Log Files

If you have created a log file, you can display a text version of the log file.

To view event logs:

  1. From the RTX Time View main screen, click View. This will invoke the Open dialog that allows you to open log files of event data.

If you previously checked the Automatically Generate Text (.txt) file box in the File Setup screen, you should see two file types in the Open dialog:

Otherwise, only the RTX Time View log (.rtv) file type will exist. If you selected text format, that file type will also be displayed along with the RTV file. If the only file type displayed are RTV files, you must first generate a text file. See Manually Creating Data Files before continuing.

  1. Select one of the available log files. The selected file is displayed in the File name text box.
  2. RTX Time View provides a mechanism that lets you filter the information displayed in a file. Only the events specified by the filter are displayed. You can use a filter with pre-selected events provided by RTX Time View or customize the filter. Select the desired filter type from the Display Filter menu or click Advanced to customize the events that are displayed. See Customizing Filters for detailed information on what is logged for each filter, as well as how to customize a filter for your specific needs.
  3. Click Open.

RTX Time View performs the file conversion and opens the .txt file type in Notepad.
