Configuring Power Management Settings
Using RTX power management settings, you can minimize the effects that power management features
and other mobile specific features can have on RTX. These features include:
- For computers with Intel® processors,
SpeedStep® technology can change processor speed, depending on load factors
- System Management Interrupt (SMI) processing for
battery management and ACPI battery polling (Microsoft ACPI-Compliant
Control Method Battery)
- Sound, video, and game controllers
IMPORTANT! You
can choose processor functionality to disable, but if you don’t disable
all mobile-specific features RTSS application performance may not be acceptable.
NOTE: You must have Windows Administrator privileges to change SpeedStep® parameters.
To configure power management settings:
- Open the
RTX Properties Control Panel and click the Hardware tab.
- Determine how you
want to disable power management features:
NOTE: These features are not available on systems running Windows 7 and RTX 2012 with Update 1.
- Use Power
Management Functionality to Prevent C1 Idle State uses internal
Windows power management logic to prevent the machine from entering a
C1 idle state. On certain systems, this setting can cause your CPU to
run at reduced speeds.
- Prevent Windows
idle state prevents the Windows idle thread from running by running
an RTSS idle thread instead. Intel Speedstep modifications occur after
the Windows idle thread has run for some period of time, so by disabling
the Windows idle thread, you effectively disable Intel Speedstep technology
as well. As a side effect, this setting causes 100% CPU utilization to
appear in the Windows Task Manager. You can see RTX CPU utilization in RTSS Performance View.
- To display a list of individual device drivers
that have the potential of causing latencies, click Settings
under Latency Causing Devices. Devices with a warning icon are known to
cause latency problems.
NOTE: If a device that is not in the Latency Causing Devices list is found to cause latency, please contact support.
- To disable a device, right-click it in the list
and click Disable in the pop-up
menu that appears. To enable a device, right-click it and click Enable in the pop-up menu that appears.
- Click Close.
